Starting a therapeutic journey is an adventure of a lifetime. This section is to give you more information about your guide. An orientation to my background, experience, and my integrative therapeutic approach (CBT and other techniques)

I received my masters in Clinical Psychology (MA Clin Psych) from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth. As a registered counsellor, student, intern and community service psychologist I was exposed to a wide range of ages, cultural backgrounds, contexts and roles. These contexts included student counselling, acute psychiatric care, medical wards and community clinics. After completing my community service at Witrand Psychiatric Hospital in Potchefstroom, I continued as a permanent psychologist on staff, but later seeking new challenges I joined academia as a lecturer at North West University. I am currently completing my PhD in Psychology and providing psychological services to individuals, companies and families in Southern Gauteng in the Midvaal region.

Integrative approach

I believe that people are made of different facets: biological, psychological, social, and spiritual. All those facets interact to create the complexities of personhood, personal problems, and their solutions. With this in mind, I draw eclectically from a wide range of theoretical frameworks such as Transactional analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Existential Therapy to select a therapeutic approach best suited to the needs of my client.

In addition to being a registered psychologist I am also a trained BWRT level 1 practitioner, registered with the Terence Watts BWRT Institute. This is a new therapeutic approach that is still being researched. Thus far this approach has shown promise with issues associated with traumatic experiences. Trust and expertise

I deeply value trust your trust and go by the premise that passport is earned. I trust that you are the expert in your story. My job is to empathically draw that story out with genuine interest.

Reaching your potential

I believe that people have potential to do good works and that they need to overcome obstacles which stand in their way. These obstacles could be biological, psychological, social, or spiritual in nature. This is why I work in close collaboration with specialists across all domains of your life (e.g. doctor, physical trainer, spiritual leader, family, or even a psychologist with better suited expertise, etc.)

Empowering the client

I have learned that most change takes place between sessions. It is thus up to you to practice your new skills. To assist my clients in applying their skills I am constantly updating the “resource” section in my blog to empower them with practical tools.
